ABOUT ME
I explore the transformation of memories into tangible objects and the manner of reconnecting to lost parts of existence. Since fall of 2022, I have incorporated at least one form of unfamiliar material into my mediums in order to continuously challenge myself while fabricating pieces. I play with proportions and compositions of mundane objects and alter them to have a comedic aspect to them. I am intrigued with the threshold that must be passed for crafts to be considered art. As a result, in my free time, I like to challenge myself to see how far I can take a simple object and push it into the boundaries of art, such as my upcycled ties. By creating colorful sculptural collages of surreal proportions, I play with personally recorded lucid dreams in relation to memory.I raise attention to mental illness and the quieter effects it can have on someone's life, such as hazy memories, lucid dreams, and concept of time. I explore the merging of reality and the surreality of dreams to create connective truths, such as with my experimental film Evergreen. I draw inspiration from surrealism and incorporate scientific themes throughout my pieces, such as nature versus nurture, as seen in my fiber piece Flowers for Algernon. This ties in with symbolism of being heavily medicated versus unmedicated and how the body changes as a result. As I am deeply enamored with science, I love to incorporate aspects of it within my art when possible. By incorporating scientific research into surrealist pieces, I can explore the many different ways that imagination and reality intertwine in everyday life. Sometimes my reality and surreality become mixed together and it becomes difficult to untangle them, imagination filling gaps of hazy memories. I allow the parts of myself that I give to my art to be perceived and understood in the many intersections of its existence. Through my art, I gain control over my lost parts of existence and offer the audience to introspect into the collective consciousness.
